Summer Bunting

A few years ago I inherited a sewing machine.  It resides in the top of the wardrobe, out of reach, never seeing the light of day. Although this remains the case, today I took a step to getting it down, dusting it off and starting to use it.

IMG_4322a (1024x598)Christi’s Stitches run courses suitable for the total novice and those wishing to develop their skills.  Today I attended their “Confidence Booster” at the beautiful Glandstone’s Library in Hawarden – the first time I’ve used a sewing machine since the days of textile lessons at school some 15 years ago.

The lovely Christi started the afternoon explaining how the sewing machine works, the controls and the settings allowing opportunity for questions. We had a beautiful range of fabrics to choose from, many colours, patterned and plain.

Everyone cut out their flags using the template provided and pinned them ready to sew. A little practise on a scrap piece of fabric and it was time to go for it. I found it easier than expected and managed to sew all of my flags in a relatively short time. Turned the right side out and pressed it was time to measure out the bias binding and pin the flags in place.  A final run with the sewing machine down the length of the bunting, involving a lot of concentration, and it was done!

I had such a lovely time with a truly great group of people. Many giggles were had in what was a really informative afternoon.  I love that I came away with not only new skills but also a beautiful run of bunting to show for my efforts. The course really lived up to it’s title of “Confidence Booster”. I feel inspired to get my sewing machine out the moment I can get somewhere to buy some fabric!

I can’t wait to get booked on another course with Christi’s Stitches. If anyone is interested you can see Christi’s Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/christisstitches
